Operators see data sharing with law enforcers, collectors risky

MOSCOW, Jun 2 (PRIME) -- Sharing of data of Russian mobile operators’ clients with the law enforcement entities and collectors puts confidentiality of user personal data at risk and raises costs, industry representatives told PRIME late on Wednesday.

“When the government develops mechanisms of personal data protection actively, an information system is being created that stipulates a transfer of data to an unjustifiably large number of people, for example, non-credit financial institutions, collectors. There is a risk that not all these institutions will be able to ensure a high level of safety of data to prevent leaks,” a spokesperson for MegaFon said.

VimpelCom, working as Beeline, and T2 RTK Holding, working as Tele2, shared this view.

“Connection of the operators to the system will require expenses from the operators which is highly undesirable in the current heavy conditions,” a Tele2 representative said.

Media reported earlier that the central bank submitted amendments to the bill on creation of a single information system of information checks of connection operators’ subscribers with a wide number of the base’s users to a committee of the State Duma, the parliament’s lower house,.
